Finally. A new site.

Hello All!

It has been awhile since I've been updating this blog, reason being I have been super busy with shoots, my new wifey, our unborn child and designing an entirely new site! Well not designing entirely. Caleb Jacob has actually done all the work. I am so grateful for his help. If you have been following me on facebook then you have been seeing all the posts and pictures coming your way! The blog is more than ready fro an update, so over the next few months it may be down, out and depressed. But fear not! It will return in a state of glory!

Yes. This is us. This was one of the easiest shoots I have ever done. The couple was very cooperative. I was also working with my favorite person in the world. My Sheree. Let me know what you think!

I have had the privilege of knowing Jenna for close to three years now. When I first met her the first thing I noticed apart from her shock of red hair was, what I supposed, a voracious love of life. It didn't take being around her long for my suspicions to be confirmed. Jenna has a love of life and people that rivals most anyone I have ever met. The care in her eyes, the spring in her step and her desire to love everyone all but cemented our friendship within a few weeks. Needless to say when her parents asked if I would like to shoot her senior portraits I was very excited. Though as I thought of how to capture her life through my lens my sense of excitement quickly turned into panic. How could I do justice? There is a certain safety in shooting people you hardly know, in the end when you look at the pictures you know that you have captured your first impressions and were true to them. When you shoot a close friend, I know for myself, I have little tolerance for a picture that is less than an exact image of who I know this person to be, so I had my hands full. The morning of the shoot dawned, it was a wonderful day, sunny with spots of clouds dotting the sky. I had selected Olde Town Arvada as the location of the shoot, all of the buildings and streets there seem to have a character of their own and I knew it was the perfect place for this particular girl. Even as we all stepped out of the car I had a few butterflies in my tummy. As soon as the shutter started flying though, I forgot my fear and settled into what has been one of my most enjoyable shoots ever. I can only wonder what great things life has in store for this lovely girl. As you peruse the images after the jump, I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

I was a brisk spring day when I set out with Stephanie and her mom. We all piled into the ever faithful jetta and drove into the dawn. Our first stop was an old favorite of mine, close to their house and with several different locations. As we walked through the morning chill I got a chance to get to know stephanie a little better. Turns out she's a writer. When asked what she enjoys most about writing "The chance to create." she said looking off. "She's a quiet dreamer." I thought to myself, and it turned out to be so. Taking portraits is difficult work, It's always my desire to capture a bit of the person so that it shows through on the final print and when you are taking pictures of someone you barely know it becomes a little harder. After the session I felt as I had a peek into the life of a very sweet, thoughtful, if sometimes quiet, artist.

BETROTHED.sam.angela.IN.LOVE.

Sammy and Angela... I had done their engagement photos a few months prior and when I heard that they were having a betrothal ceremony in Kentucky I knew I couldn't miss it for the world. The ceremony was beautiful. I filmed it for them and after that I shadowed the always brilliant Heather Meyers as she took their portraits. As she took them I snuck in a few of my own. And here they are! I am so looking forward to their wedding! They really are such a beautiful couple and their story makes it even more wonderful. At the end of the session I climbed up in the tree and got the last shots of the day, which turned out to be my favorites. Funny how that works sometimes. Anyways enjoy!

It was my immense pleasure to do Sam and Angela's engagement pictures. I have known Sammy for a pretty long while now and count him as one of my dearest friends. We started out Taking a few pictures in boulder and slowly moved our way up the mountain. As soon as we got up there snow started to gently fall from the sky. What perfect setting too, It just so happens that Sam (unbeknownst to angela) was going to propose to her on the spot. It was a major blast, I dearly love these two and look foraward to seeing how their lives turn out. The theme of this photoshoot is something that was placed on Sam and Angela's heart for a long time now. It's not just a message, its the Message.

Here is a shoot I did last year for some longtime friends of the family. It was shot over two days. Joanna is so photogenic! I was very pleased with the results. I look forward to photographing the rest of their family!

This is my other family. taking such a big group shot fun! I would show you more pictures but this was my favorite. And there are only so many times you can look at the same group. Most eyes were open and everyone was so cooporative. I couldn't believe it turned out as well as it did.

This is a follow up album of sorts. When I was asked to do David and Savannah's engagement pictures I kinda guessed that they were getting married a short time later, I didn't guess that they would have me back to do their wedding! What a tremendous opportunity. I enjoyed being able to do their engagement session and really enjoyed doing their wedding. It was a crisp December day, the remnants of the winter casting a sense of wonder across the landscape. Did I say crisp? I mean freezing. I'm pretty much convinced that every photoshoot I do will have something to do with freezing weather. But back to their day. The sun was casting it's warm beams of light across the face of the bride and groom whilst the 20 degree gusts were simultaneosly causing goosbumps, but all things barring I think they turned out good. David looked as dapper as ever and the bride was beautiful. I hope to do some more shoots with them soon.

Hello Everyone! It's been pretty busy since my last post here. As some of you may have known, Photography is not my only passion, I also love design, video work and poetry (http://motesofdust.blogspot.com) Anyway this post is the latest of a series of framed art that I have been working on for several years. I call it "My Dove" The verse it's based on comes from Song of Solomon chapter 2. I love the visual word pictures given here. Its remarkable. When you read the verse marvel that this is the Love of you God for you.

My beloved speaks and says to me:

“Arise, my love, my beautiful one,

and come away,

for behold, the winter is past;

the rain is over and gone.

The flowers appear on the earth,

the time of singing [4] has come,

and the voice of the turtledove

is heard in our land.

The fig tree ripens its figs,

and the vines are in blossom;

they give forth fragrance.

Arise, my love, my beautiful one,

and come away.

O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,

in the crannies of the cliff,

Here is a sampling of the wedding I did in Ohio. It was such a beautiful day, the sun was barely hid behind some clouds and the light was perfect... Did I mention it was 35 degrees out? It was freezing. But they both were such great sports.
